Observe and think like a systems architect.
Learn to oversee, understand and influence complex technological systems. By applying the CAFCR model, you will learn to apply systems thinking in the tension between customer interests, technical possibilities and limitations, and organisational aspects.

Master the technical profession in breadth and depth.
As a systems architect, you have an eye for the bigger picture (of systems of systems) and for details (within sub-sub systems). You can switch quickly between the two and easily zoom in and out. You extract the essence from complex issues, using key drivers and key performance parameters, among other things. As an architect, you focus and maintain an overview. In this way, you help stakeholders navigate the complex reality. In your communication, you visualise and conceptualise so that you are understandable to a diverse target group.

Influence without power.
As a systems architect, you have little formal power. This requires you to be able to effectively change the way others think and influence them without using your position. This requires you to be able to empathise with others, distinguish facts from emotions, dare to stand your ground when necessary, and dare to vary your communication style.

Consciously choose your own leadership style.
Why is one systems architect effective and another not? Be aware of your personal (limiting) beliefs and how they guide your behaviour. Reflect on your thoughts and behaviour, and then practise new patterns. Feedback, coaching and practical assignments will increase your self-insight and effectiveness as a systems leader.
